The internationally acclaimed Asian Youth Orchestra (AYO) has chosen Kuala Lumpur as the launch city for its latest Southeast Asian tour. Making its debut at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), the AYO will perform two concerts under the direction of its founder and Artistic Director Richard Pontzious with guest violin virtuoso Stefan Jackiw.
Recipient of Japan’s Praemium Imperiale Grant for Young Artists, Japan’s highest award for the arts, the orchestra’s 100 members are a select group of pre-professional musicians, each member chosen through highly competitive auditions held in Japan, Korea, Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines.
In addition to the performances in Kuala Lumpur, the AYO’s 2011 tour will include concerts in Singapore, Bangkok, Hanoi, Hong Kong, Beijing, Tianjin, Taipei and Tokyo – 16 concerts in 9 cities in 21 days.
