Chitra @ The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac), Jalan Strachan, Off Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpurposted by mmw_event

Based on a story from the Mahabhrata, this lyrical drama was written by Noble Prize-winner Rabindranath Tagore. A remarkably talented person who wrote, composed and also painted, Tagore is best known for his poetry. His literary works are noted for its rhythmic and lyrical nature.
Chitra, a play in one act tells the story of Chitra, daughter and only child of King Manipur. Brought up like a boy and heir to the throne, she is proud of her prowess and manliness. Things change, however, when she encounters Arjuna and falls in love. Beseeching the help of the Gods, she transforms into a beautiful woman to win his heart. But soon after, guilt starts to settle in as she questions the illusion she has created in Arjuna’s heart.
This production, directed by Helena Foo, not only brings to life the eloquent writing of Tagore but also fleshes out essential questions about identity, truth vs. illusion, and what love really is.
