Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in Hertford, England in 1968. Along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, they are considered to be among the pioneers of modern hard rock and heavy metal although some band members have tried not to categorise themselves as any one genre as the band also incorporated classical music, blues-rock, pop and progressive rock elements into their music. To date, they have sold over 100 million albums worldwide.

Their biggest hits include ‘Black Night’, ‘Highway Star’, ‘Smoke on the Water’, ‘Speed King’, ‘Fireball’, ‘Strange Kind of Woman’, ‘Child in Time’ and ‘Space Truckin’.

Deep Purple are considered to be one of the hardest touring bands in the world. From 1968 until today (with the exception of their 1976-1983 split) they continue to tour around the world.
