By the early ‘60s, George had joined organist Jack McDuff’s band – a gig that was educational but short-lived. He left to form his own band, and eventually launched his solo career with his 1964 album, “The New Boss Guitar”. A few albums later, his jazz record “Breezin’” attained triple-platinum status and yielded many evergreen hits, including the instrumental title track, the soulful update of Leon Russell’s “This Masquerade” and the lively “Give Me The Night”. Some of his more notable offerings of the past decade include the albums Absolute Benson (2000), the sexy and soulful Irreplaceable (2003), and Givin’ It Up (2006) – a duet recording with the legendary Al Jarreau that scored two Grammy Awards.
