The Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant is an annual beauty pageant solely organized by Astro. This beauty pageant which was formerly known as Miss Malaysia Chinese International Pageant has marked its’ place in the local viewers’ hearts since the year 1998.
It has a string of high profile associates such as Versace, M.A.C, Christian Dior, Rado, Canon, Lewre, Triumph, Monica Lee (award winning makeup artist), Victor Goh (award winning stylist) as well as top Malaysian fashion designers Eric Choong, Jonathan Cheng, Melinda Looi, Khoon Hooi, Beatrice Looi and Carven Ong to design the elaborate wardrobes.
The event features the shooting of a personal video diary for the contestants. The final 13 is chosen, and the shooting of videos begin with a series of activities. The activities include going to the beach, learning how to relax, acting, collaboration, participating in charity, and sharing some healthy diet advice.
Since the year 2008, ASTRO introduced a different format in determining the TOP 5 finalists which is by combining both SMS votes and judging. Only the top 2 finalists with the highest SMS votes will automatically advance to the Top 5 while the other 3 spots will be filled by finalists with the highest scores accumulated during the finals and preliminary judging.
The winner of the pageant each year will be nominated by ASTRO to represent Kuala Lumpur in the Miss Chinese International Pageant, organized by TVB which is held annually in Hong Kong around the Chinese New Year season.
