The famed Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2009 will be held from the 10 – 12 July 2009 in Sarawak. Thinking of going, but not sure what it’s all about? Then come to the Annexe Gallery on 26 and 27 January to watch screenings of the past RWMF.

Date / Time	26 January 2009 (Mon) – 27 January 2009 (Tue) First Screening Jan 26, 11.30am-12.40pm. The first screening will feature two parts. It will begin with Randy Raine-Reusch with Tabuh Pak Ainal’s performance. The second part, entitled ‘Bing Bang Bong’ will feature performances during the 2006 Rainforest World Music Festival from percussion groups such as Malaysia’s Dhol Federation, Korea’s Chungmyung Art Troupe, Madagascar’s Kilema with special appearances by Canadian group Genticorum and Hotel Palindrone from Austria. Second Screening Jan 26, 2pm-3.30pm. Catch the recorded performance of French Gypsy group, Les Yeux Noirs in action. The screening continues with Bits & Bytes. The 41-minute clip will feature voodoo singer from Mali, Nahawa Doumbia, Mongolian Eschiglen, Kilema from Madagascar and Les Yeux Noirs. Third Screening Jan 26, 4pm-6pm. Bands on showcase from the 2006 Rainforest World Music Festival are Australian based group Inka Marka performing music from the Andes, the rhythmic group from Madagascar, Kilema, Malaysia’s own Aseana Percussion Unit and latin fiesta trio, Mas Y Mas. Fourth Screening Jan 26, 8.30pm-10.30pm. The final screening for the night will feature Tuvan throat singers, Huun Huur Tu with Russian DJ Malerija and also the group from Madagascar, Tarika Be. Fifth Screening Jan 27, 11.30am-12.30pm. Watch the performance of the indigenous Mah Meri tribe from Carey Island, Ensemble Kaboul, an Afghan family living in exile in Europe and, once again, the fantastic group from Madagascar, Tarika Be. Sixth Screening Jan 27, 2pm-3.30pm. This session will feature Back To The Roots with screenings of recorded performances from Doghouse Skiffle Group, Foghorn Stringband, Black Umfolosi and Shooglenifty. If you have missed Huun Huur Tu and Malerija’s recorded performance during the fourth screening then this is your chance to catch it. Seventh Screening Jan 27, 4pm-6pm. Catch UK’s Latin performers Mas Y Mas and Celtic trance dance group from the Isle of Skye, Peatbog Faeries with full length concert footage. Eighth Screening Jan 27, 8.30pm-10pm. The final screening of this two day event will feature Rainforest World Music Festival 2007 highlights with footage of Doghouse Skiffle Group from the UK, Tammorra from Sicily and Polish group, Shannon. The finale will showcase a 52-minute documentary entitled ‘Rhythm of the Rainforest.’
