Congkak, mi Maggi, teh tarik, May 13th, election Tsunami, Malaysia, truly Asia… things familiar to all Malaysians, but what does it all mean? An author doesn’t necessarily understand the meaning of his own story better than anyone else.

On the eve of our nation’s 51st Merdeka celebrations, The T4YP Ensemble explore the ins and outs of being Malaysian at this pivotal time in our nation’s history. Director Abdul Qahar Aqilah weaves random pieces through the surreal classic Alice in Wonderland, brought to life by designer Yusman Mokhtar’s fantasy landscape. Edgy, dark and comedic but always honest – Malaysia through the eyes of its young-ins.

The first instalment of The T4YP Ensemble’s ‘What Does It Mean To Be…?’ performance series and devised entirely by the company, this series seeks to look beneath the surface of contemporary Malaysian issues which affect young people of today, giving them their say.
