STRANGE TALES OF MA LAI SIA I: OINK! @ Jalan Strachan, Off Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur In 2008, klpac started the Community Writing Project. Helmed by its Resident Writer / Director Mark Beau de Silva, the programme aims to tell the stories of a selected community on stage. This year, Mark has included farmers, students and even animals in his workshop. With a synopsis that includes dead pigs and talking noses, Strange Tales of Ma Lai Sia 1: Oink is an exciting look at the migration of the Chinese to Malaysia, from their development to its current predicament. Using the 1999 Nipah virus outbreak as its backdrop, the play travels to the future and back to solve the mystery of the dead pigs that are causing a panic amongst the people. Cik Lydia and her boss, Tuan, enlists the help of Min, a 40-something housewife to solve the epidemic. The only problem is the source of the epidemic is unknown. The play stars Bella Rahim (Best Newcomer, Short+Sweet Malaysia 2009), Lim Tiong Wooi (who was in Loh Kok Man's acclaimed production of Animal Farm) and Kimmy Kiew (who directed The Bench earlier this year).

To his surprise, Willow found out that he has time-travelling abilities and with this at his disposal, Willow sets to go back through time, find out the person who crafted the decree and stop it from being made. His adventures ultimately lead him to Brooke – the girl who is said to have changed the world.
Penny Tai Live in Malaysia 2010 @ Genting Highlands, Pahang Malaysian singer song-writer Penny Tai will be back to her home country this January. Despite being active in the industry for almost a decade, no one would have thought the petite Penny to be 31 years of age. With 7 studio albums already, Penny started song-writing at the age of 17 and pens each and every single song in her albums herself. Born in Johore to a Hakka family, the platform which launched her career came from the Halo Song-writing Contest in Kuala Lumpur back in the late 90s. And in 1999, EMI Music (Taiwan) offered her a recording contract and moved her to Taiwan to pursue a career in singing and song-writing. The rest, as they say is history. Her first album, the self-titled "Penny" was released in January 2000 and with that she was hailed as the next big thing in the music industry. Her career reached a pinnacle in 2006 when she won the Best Composer award at the Golden Melody Awards for the song "Crazy Love" - the title track to her 2005 hit album. Now Penny will be performing at the Arena of Stars this on 16th of January 2010. Pebbles 6 @ Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur This is a dance performance series featuring Contemporary Dance particularly in Improvisational form, performed by children and adult. In 1998, RiverGrass Dance Academy was formed. In 2003, the annual school performance was named Pebbles. Since then, RiverGrass began its dedication to improvisational performances that value the innate ability of “thinking with the body”. Literally, pebbles are stones shaped by the river. They come in various colors, textures, sizes and shapes. RiverGrass's principal Mew Chang Tsing likes this idea as it resembles the focus of the academy, i.e. shaping students into who they are instead of who the teacher wants them to be. Mew beliefs every dancer has his/her own strength, style and aesthetics. When they dance, they should exuberate each own individual characteristic. Like no two pebbles are identical, so are dancers. Pebbles 6 has two segments, the first is an interactive session where children in the audience could participate to have a feel of guided improvisation. Second segments consists of innovative Line Dance performances by the all time favourite Nanta Alumni Dance Group. Mew’s new work, which is a dance suite, Red On, has six short pieces involving children from 3+ years old to working adult. As they enjoy themselves, audience will be treated to a surprise ending.

Down on the street, Ajim the street-sweeper attempts to make sense of his mundane life while harboring a heart-wrenching secret. One of them will die, and the other three will be forever changed for it. This is a play about being human, being lost, being found again and finally, being able to find a Light in KL City.

Carmen & Paquita @ Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur Danceworks Production was initiated by a group of dance enthusiasts with an aim to promote dance culture and raise funds for charity through dance performance in Malaysia. Since 1998, Danceworks Production has staged 3 performances and raised funds for various foundations and needy groups including Cancerlink Foundation, Fatima Kindergarten, Yayasan Sin Chew, Kiwanis Down Syndrome and Lions Lyfe-Line Leukaemia Fund. Danceworks also supported workshops and competitions organized by The Dance Society of Malaysia and sponsored local dancers to participate in events abroad. 'Danceworks 2010' aims for a bigger success in presenting a full length work 'Carmen' and a well known classical ballet repertoire 'Paquita Grand pas classic'. 'Paquita Grand pas classic' will be led by Lei Zhao, First Soloist of the prestigious Birmingham Royal Ballet (UK) and Connor Walsh, Principal Dancer of America's 4th largest company, Houston Ballet. 'Carmen', an original choreography by Choong Wan Chin (Artistic Director of Danceworks Production) premiered in Japan in July 2008 and was well received by the Japanese audience. Ena Hirose, Co-artistic Director of Ena Ballet Studio Company whom the original role of Carmen was created for will resume the same role in this production. Connor Walsh who has partnered Ena Hirose in 2 other ballets in 2008 and 2009 will partner her again as Don Jose. Danceworks Production involves not only foreign artists but also many Malaysian artists including those who are working overseas. We envisage such cultural exchange will benefit our local dancers as well as our people culturally and socially.

Frances Yip & The Symphony Orchestra 40th Anniversary Concert Live In Genting @ Genting Highlands, Pahang Frances Yip is a Cantopop singer from Hong Kong who sang many TV theme songs for the Hong Kong TVB series between the 1980s and early 1990s. Of Hakka ancestry, she hit international fame with her signature tune, The Bund from the popular TVB drama of the same name. Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant 2009 @ Genting Highlands, Pahang The Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant is an annual beauty pageant solely organized by Astro. This beauty pageant which was formerly known as Miss Malaysia Chinese International Pageant has marked its' place in the local viewers' hearts since the year 1998. It has a string of high profile associates such as Versace, M.A.C, Christian Dior, Rado, Canon, Lewre, Triumph, Monica Lee (award winning makeup artist), Victor Goh (award winning stylist) as well as top Malaysian fashion designers Eric Choong, Jonathan Cheng, Melinda Looi, Khoon Hooi, Beatrice Looi and Carven Ong to design the elaborate wardrobes. The event features the shooting of a personal video diary for the contestants. The final 13 is chosen, and the shooting of videos begin with a series of activities. Since the year 2008, ASTRO introduced a different format in determining the TOP 5 finalists which is by combining both SMS votes and judging. Only the top 2 finalists with the highest SMS votes will automatically advance to the Top 5 while the other 3 spots will be filled by finalists with the highest scores accumulated during the finals and preliminary judging. The winner of the pageant each year will be nominated by ASTRO to represent Kuala Lumpur in the Miss Chinese International Pageant, organized by TVB which is held annually in Hong Kong around the Chinese New Year season.

Ice-Cream 4U Charity Concert @ Jalan Cheras, Kuala Lumpur The idea for the ‘Ice-Cream 4 U Charity Concert’ originated from both Lee Sinje and Yi Jet Qi. Both the artistes had an unforgettable experience of watching a video clip on YouTube that showed the smile children had on their faces while merely just eating ice-cream. The simple innocent joy and the genuine sound of children's laughter touched them. Hence that is how the idea of having a Concert to benefit children homes and giving ice-cream to these underprivileged / handicap children / orphans to put a smile on their faces came about! Joining hands and coming together for the very 1st time in the name of charity, love and for a worthy cause, the `never-been-seen-before’ impressive artistes line-up includes Lee Sinje, Yi Jet Qi, Fish Leong, Ah Niu, Nicholas Teo, Kit Teo, Manhand, Dave Pei Jie and Kah Jun with Taiwanese singer Valen Hsu as Guest Artiste. KK Wong (of 988 K6 duo) and Jiang Pei Pei will be hosting the Concert. All donations and funds raised will be in aid of PUSAT PENJAGAAN KANAK-KANAK CACAT TAMAN MEGAH (PPKKCTM), which runs a Home for the disabled and the underprivileged. (http://www.ppkkctm.org/). All proceeds will be used towards the building and expansion of the Home. There are 138 children of all races living at the Home, ranging in age from 7 months to 55 years old and coming from all over Peninsular Malaysia. About a 100 of these children are disabled with various disabilities such as Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, global delay, muscular dystrophy, dwarfism, apeth syndrome, neunan syndrome, hyper activity, physical challenges, intellectual disabilities as well as speech, audio and visual impairments. The rest are normal children who come from broken, abused or single parent background. 67 are school going children; of these 25 are normal children and goes to normal schools, one is in nursery while the rest are in a special school. Although the Home is doing yeoman service, this decentralized system of housing its residents in different buildings is not in the best interest of the residents and has caused other difficulties for the administration. In January 2009, the Home fully settled the deal for a piece of land to build a one-stop centre projected to cost RM 5.5 million. The Home currently has RM1.5 million raised to put towards this project with RM4 million left to be raised so financial assistance is needed to remedy this pressing issue. Needless to say, PPKKCTM do not possess the financial strength to settle this problem alone. Therefore, they have launched an all-out fund-raising drive and welcome any form of assistance from kind hearted souls. Charity and Music undoubtedly go hand in hand for we believe that the power of music is universal and cuts across all barriers. Borneo International Marathon 2009 @ Kota Kinabalu, Sabah The 10km Run: This begins at the Likas Sports Stadium and runners will make their wa y towards the the Coastal Highway, turning left after the Sabah Trade Centre at Wisma Perindustrian, then into the city, pas sing Jesselton Point towards Wisma Merdeka shopping centre .The route turns right at Wisma Merdeka towards the sea and then arund the block which includes the Hyatt Regency Hotel. After completing this loop, runners head back to the stadium for the finish. The Half Marathon Run: This is the same as the 10km run except it does not turn at the Hyatt roundabout and instead proceeds towards the central market, past Le Meridien towards Wawasan Plaza. From there runners turn right at the traffic lights and make their way towards the Sutera Harbour resorts. Runners will make make the loop at the guardhouse by the entry to the residences and return the same way to the coastal highway. Upon reaching the coastal highway, turn right towards Tg Aru. Proceed along this road to reach the intersection with Jalan Mat Salleh where runners make a loop and then return leg back towards Likas Sports Stadium (without going in to Sutera Resort) for the finish The Full Marathon Run: This begins at the Likas Sports Stadium and runners will make their way out towards the Coastal Highway, turning right at the roundabout and running along Likas Bay towards the Likas Mosque. Runners will proceed towards the Tun Mustapha Tower roundabout.
